However, it is quite understandable that this number cannot be 100 percent accurate. The most accurate estimate of the total number of species on Earth includes 6.5 million species found on land and 2.2 million that live in the ocean’s depths. This figure reduces the range of earlier estimates and is based on a proven analytical technique.
